I want to be five once more,
just so I could meet you then -
on the playground, or at school
and we'd click instantly,
trade secrets and stories and
declare the other has cooties;
we'd worm our ways into
respective families' hearts
You know I think we'd be the best of friends
- to be six once more -
at our birthday party
where we turn the bed
into a makeshift tent and
flashlight we've borrowed,
stay up all night telling stories
with invisible friends and
a bowl of popcorn we've discarded
You know I think we'd be the best of friends
- to be seven once more -
fancy clothes, lunches packed, fussing parents
carpooling on the first day of school
singing ABBA at the top of our lungs
only to be interrupted by a punch as
a shout about the VW bugs passing us
then at school, silly fights over who
can swing higher to reach the sky
You know I think we'd be the best of friends

I think you and I would have clicked, as kids
